How to renew your passport
Most adults can renew without visiting any office.
Renew online
Available to adults 25 or older renewing a 10-year passport issued 9 to 15 years ago, with no name or detail changes and no international travel in the next 6 weeks. Only routine service is offered online.
Renew by mail (Form DS-82)
You can renew by mail if your current passport is undamaged, was issued when you were 16 or older, within the last 15 years, and you can document any name change. Expedited service is available by mail.
When you must apply in person
If your passport was lost, stolen or damaged, issued before age 16, or more than 15 years ago, apply in person with Form DS-11 at an acceptance facility. Find one by state.
